Dr Ravi Sankar

BSc, MRes, DClinPsy, CPsychol, AFBPsS, PG Cert in CBTp, BABCP accredited Cognitive and Behavioural Psychotherapist

I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist. I have a Master of Research (MRes) Degree in Psychology, a Bachelor of Science (BSc Honours) Degree in Psychology, and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy). I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council which permits me to practise as a Clinical Psychologist. I am an accredited BABCP cognitive behavioural therapist (CBT) and have had training in eye movement desensitisation reprocessing therapy (EMDR) for trauma. I also have training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and use ACT to optimise performance in sport.

I am experienced in the psychological assessment and treatment of adults for common mental health problems. I typically see adult clients with work-related stress, burnout symptoms, and generalised anxiety. I have worked with professional footballers and tennis players regarding performance-related issues (e.g. dealing with pressure), anxiety and depression. I draw upon CBT, EMDR and ACT to work out what is getting in the way of a client achieving their valued goals.

I have worked in services across the lifespan and within multi-disciplinary teams. I have previously served as a Lead Clinical Psychologist within the Early Intervention Psychosis team in Central and Northwest London NHS Foundation Trust. That role involved providing comprehensive assessments and evidence-based psychological treatment for first episode psychosis and comorbid mental health problems. I previously supervised a range of staff including CBT therapists, trainee clinical and counselling psychologists, clinical psychologists, and individual placement and support workers. I had been a member of the research committee for the Oxford clinical psychology training programme to advance evidence-based practice.
